Bald Walter's "CURVE" made the Patriot Ledger top 10 best of 2007 list
‘‘Curve’’ by Bald Walter
Weymouth rock ’n’ roll lifers produced one of the year’s most compelling
albums, with perhaps the best sound of any CD this year (kudos to Joe
Merrick’s Guilty Dog Studio in Hanson). Proudly retro, they fall somewhere
between Little Feat, The Kinks and more contemporary alt-rockers. You could, for
example, imagine Dave Matthews doing ‘‘Leap into the Dark,’’ but the
frenzied ‘‘Midlife Crisis’’ has that Kinks-ian seriocomic desperation to
it. There’s even a great reggae tune, ‘‘Jump.’’ Cool songwriting that
doesn’t take itself too seriously, driving rock ’n’ roll and that
intangible sense of surprise around the next chorus. (12/28/2007)
